On the Importance of Soybean Seed P for Shoot P Uptake before Anthesis

Phosphorus (P) is an important macronutrient required for crop growth but a finite resource in agriculture. The objective of this study was to examine the effects soybean seed size and P content on accumulation up anthesis (30–40 DAP). Pot experiments were carried out greenhouse with 15 genotypes different (TKW 146–304 g) two substrates differing plant available P, i.e., low (LP) at 6.17 mg kg−1 vs. high (HP) 68.12 CAL-P. observations included measurements shoot dry matter concentrations as well root characteristics. In case LP, relied, large degree, reserves during vegetative period. HP, however, role negligible regard absolute uptake. Yet, very close linear relationship between uptake also confirmed HP. Some reacted more positively than others HP biomass production uptake, none selected showed outstanding or under LP. Total length surface area did not explain differences either supply level. Overall, no substantial genotypic observed use efficiency deficiency apart from effect reserves. We conclude that can be considered trait when screening fast early growth.
